Discussing Racism with your Kids
featuring Maria Abada, LPC

Systemic racism in America is a complex and challenging issue. In this program, caregivers will learn age-appropriate ways to discuss racism, social injustice, and inequality with their children.

About our speaker: Maria is a licensed professional counselor with 13 years of experience serving family and youth in the mental health field. She manages Intensive In-Community Services at Bonnie Brae.

Virtually Speaking: Complimenting Your Child’s Speech Sessions in the Home Environment
featuring Tracy Lee, CCC-SLP, and Amanda Goldberg, CCC-SLP

This presentation will focus on the family/school partnership in providing speech/language services for students of all ages and all disabilities. Parent tips and strategies will be shared to enhance students’ communication skills, including the use of speech, gestures, picture boards and technology, both at school and at home.

About our speaker: Tracy has over 20 years of experience working as a certified speech-language pathologist, specializing in students with autism and multiple disabilities and particularly in the field of augmentative and alternative communication. She is a member of the administrative team at the Gramon Family of Schools. Amanda has been a speech-language pathologist with the Gramon Family of Schools for the past 9 years where she is now the Coordinator of the Speech Department.

Teaching Crucial Functional Living Skills to Your Child
featuring Cathleen M. George, LCSW

This workshop will review the importance of teaching functional living skills to your child, while capitalizing on the extra time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic to focus on this area of development. We will identify and discuss seven domains of functional living skills, and learn strategies to teach and reinforce skills in these areas.

About our speaker: Cathleen (“Cassie”) has 23 years of experience in the mental health field, with the last nineteen spent at Newmark Schools. She has worked in foster care, social service agencies and in hospital settings. In addition to providing direct counseling services, she provides training to the Newmark staff on mental health issues, and shaping student behavior.
