May 14th – May 20th is Special Education Week in New Jersey

“Bright Tomorrow for Today’s Students”

Special Education Week in New Jersey is commemorated by Proclamation of the New Jersey State Legislature, and is a chance for students, families, school administrators and decision-makers to celebrate special education services, special education programs, and most importantly, the special education teachers who make it possible for children with disabilities to learn effectively and to reach their full potential in their families and communities.

Special Education Week in New Jersey is co-sponsored by ASAH and the New Jersey School Boards Association. This year’s theme, “Bright Tomorrow for Today’s Students,” celebrates the potential of our students and the educational strategies that make extraordinary positive outcomes possible for so many special education students in New Jersey.

The weeklong celebration is marked by a luncheon event at which the spirit and goals of quality special education are recognized and honored. The luncheon features student musical performances, awards to special education teachers and programs at public and private schools that have developed innovative special education programs, and several academic scholarships presented to special education students who demonstrated particular achievement during the past year.

The event also features juried awards to student artists for artwork that captured the spirit of special education as they experience it. Posted below is a gallery of the winning artworks.

ASAH and the New Jersey School Boards Association, are very grateful for the corporate support provided by their Special Education Week grant sponsors.
